Mitchelstown Credit Union Ltd (MCU) is a large progressive community-based credit union with assets of €92 million and a loan book more than €50 million. MCU has a membership of over15,000 and a branch network across three offices: Mitchelstown, Ballylanders and Knocklong.

We are seeking to recruit an experienced, multi-skilled, hands-on accountant to head up our finance function, be part of our Management Team and assist in the further development of our business.

The Finance Officer will have responsibility for the complete finance function. This includes overseeing all financial aspects of the Credit Union and for the flow of financial information to the CEO, Management Team, Board and as required, to external parties including the Central Bank.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Report directly to the CEO and be a strong, positive contributor to the Management Team.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of the Credit Union’s Strategic Plan and the delivery of business targets.
  • Assist the lending team within the credit union in decision making and training.
  • Manage the complete finance function of the Credit Union including preparation of monthly and annual financial statements and providing analysis of financial information.
  • Budgetary control and forecasting.
  • Payroll.
  • Report all financial information to the CEO, Management Team, Board, and external stakeholders.
  • Preparation and submission of regulatory returns.
  • Develop and maintain an efficient, high-quality system of internal control and reporting.
  • Enhance metrics/KPI’S to measure and report on overall Credit Union performance.
  • Review of investments to ensure sufficient liquidity, including portfolio reporting and decision making with the CEO, Audit, Finance and Investment Committee, Board, and external bodies.
  • Work closely with other departments to improve overall efficiencies throughout the organisation.
  • To undertake such other reasonable and lawful duties, as may be directed from time to time by the CEO.

The Successful Candidate:

  • Professional accounting qualification with a minimum of 5 years management experience.
  • Well established financial and commercial acumen.
  • Excellent organisational skills with demonstrable ability to develop and enhance work practices.
  • Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team.
  • Excellent people management skills with the ability to lead, motivate and train team members.
  • Excellence in verbal and written communications and reporting.
  • Well-developed people skills that enhance relationships both internally and externally with colleagues, members and other stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in ICT skills across various applications.
