Recently, Mitchelstown Credit Union hosted their annual Greenify conference. The event, titled Timeto Greenify, shone a light on the green supports and financing options available to homeowners in Mitchelstown Credit Unions local area that can help to save money while also creating a positive impact on the environment.

Greenify is the brand name for a green home energy upgrade loan product that is available across a growing number of Irish Credit Unions including Mitchelstown Credit Union. The loan provides the opportunity to thousands of credit union members to access green finance to retrofit their homes and make them more comfortable.

Speaking on behalf of Greenify, Colin Irwin CEO at Mitchelstown Credit Union commented:

“We are delighted to promote an event like Time to Greenify in partnership with other credit unions throughout the country. Greenify highlights a growing awareness among Irish homeowners about the importance of improving their homes to save money and improve the health of the planet. “

The event, hosted by Helen Carroll presenter of Ear to the Ground, featured contributions from some of the industry’s leading experts. Marie Donnelly, Chair of the Climate Change Advisory Council of Ireland, gave a thought-provoking keynote highlighting the global challenge we are facing through climate change and Ireland’s role in overcoming it while Brian Corr, Head of Credit Union Policy at the Department of Finance spoke of the increasing opportunity for collaboration in the credit union space to help support the movement of members towards more sustainable living.

With an expert panel including Colm Tynan from the South East Technological University (SETU), attendees were left with a range of activities that they could explore to start the greenification of their homes. The panel highlighted some cost-effective initiatives like changing lightbulbs from traditional ones to LED ones, the importance of a fabric first approach to insulation and the need to understand the full retrofit options that are available to Irish homeowners.

Commenting further, Colin added:

“Having an expert panel with the likes of Marie Donnelly and Colm Tynan really confirms what we have long believed: there is a need to change our collective behaviours and that homeowners need financial support to do this. We want our members to be able to start their green journeys at home; investing in arrange of
projects that will enhance the comfort of their homes and do their bit towards protecting our environment.

We are delighted to play our part in this webinar to provide further awareness of green initiatives and solutions available to homeowners. It is also a welcome opportunity to bring together our credit union teams, local tradespeople, suppliers and members of the wider community that have a role to play in Greenify.

For any homeowner who wants to find out more about how to access a Greenify loan, they can go to www.mcu.ie or call 025-24800 or visit anyone of our branches.”
